Six Week Beginning Intensive

Meeting twice a week, our two-part Beginning Intensive program puts together the fundamentals of a solid acting technique with a step-by-step approach to scene study.

Rehearsal of a studio production of Chekhov’s The Seagull.

Level One:

The first level of this two part Intensive focuses on developing the instinct and imagination of the beginning actor. Open, honest listening and responding is taught through a series of structured exercises based on concentration, relaxation, and improvisation. This moment to moment reality is then applied to a simple scene from a published play, bringing to life both the text and the actor.

Upon completion the actor’s progress is reviewed by the instructor.

Level Two: Building upon the work of Level One, new scenes are assigned, which are more advanced and emotionally challenging. Work focuses on environment, emotional preparation and the beginnings of character work. Incorporating these new elements, increasingly complex improvisations and exercises are developed with the actor experiencing the enriched life that these new layers bring to his/her craft.

Level Two culminates in a performance of the scene work, with the goal of deepening the actor’s experience, and bringing the moment to moment reality of Level One together with the more intricate work of Level Two.

Upon completion of the Beginning Intensive the student becomes a member of the Studio enabling him/her to audition for our season of productions. Recommendations for further study will be discussed.
