Advanced Commercial Acting: Crafting a polished performance
Advanced Commercial Acting is a series of “workout sessions” designed to:
- sharpen your skills
- identify and correct any weaknesses
- polish your strengths
The class is led by John Swain, a veteran performer who has starred in, directed, and produced commercials. On the fifth and final night of the class, actors will showcase their work for Phillip Casesse, commercial agent with Stewart Talent. Phillip has been an agent at Stewart for seven years and books clients in commercials that shoot all over the world.
Please note class size is limited and this course is offered once annually.
A recommendation from John Swain is required for admittance.

Instructor: John Howard Swain
John Howard Swain, veteran actor, director and teacher, brings a broad range of experience from both sides of the camera to the classroom. As an actor John has guest starred in dozens of network television shows from the legendary Hill Street Blues to the current Law & Order SVU. He also starred in a number of movies of the week and in the mini-series Family of Spies and Blind Faith.
His film credits include Best Seller, Angels in the Outfield and The Tenderloin. In addition to his film and television work John has directed over twenty-five major theatrical productions across the country including productions in New York City, Los Angeles and San Francisco. As a film director he has directed four films: Whose Life, Uncommon, and Stand By (an official entry in the Sundance Film Festival) and the multi-award winning short, A Younger Man.
As a teacher John was the founder of one of the country’s most prestigious acting programs for actors interested in film and TV, Full Circle Productions in San Francisco. Students from this program continue to work on Broadway, in network television series, and in film.
