Beginning Meisner Technique: Studying the work of a master

Beginner Meisner Technique for Actors focuses on putting together the fundamentals of a solid acting technique with a step-by-step approach to working on stage and screen. This beginner class features a series of structured Meisner exercises that provide a beginning actor vital tools:

  • Open, honest listening and responding.
  • Developed instincts and imagination.
  • Building in confidence and trusting impulses.

An introduction to Sanford Meisner’s approach to developing acting technique. This acting class is a step-by-step progression of building an acting exercise that develops the actor’s ability to work organically, creating truthfully expressive behavior in acting. The acting class covers the beginning Meisner techniques from word repetition through its application to the beginning improvisation exercise and a first set of corresponding scenes. 

The Beginner Meisner Technique class meets twice a week on Mondays and Thursdays.

This is a beginning level class- no audition is required, and you may apply online. LOG IN TO APPLY. Upon completion of the course, recommendations for further study will be discussed.

INSTRUCTOR: Robert Verlaque


Robert Verlaque  Robert has been a professional actor, director, teacher and writer for over 30 years and teaches in Toronto, Los Angeles and New York. He starred in the Disney release “The Games Maker” opposite Joseph Fiennes, Ed Asner, David Mazouz; has guest starred on “Jessica Jones”, “Boardwalk Empire”, “Saving Hope”, “Warehouse 13″, “Cracked”, “Reign”. Recurring ‘Judge Gus Benjamin’ on “Suits”. He performed in New York in the critically acclaimed world premiere of The Road to Damascus. Robert  co-starred in the film “Indignation” with Tracy Letts, Logan Lerman, written and directed by James Schamus.

Extensive directing credits in New York, Toronto, and regional theatre. New York directing credits include Labyrinth Theatre Co., Playwrights Horizons, Ensemble Studio Theatre, Acorn Theatre Co., Circle Rep East, The Shooting Gallery, and The Actors Studio, among others.

Robert is a produced playwright and screenwriter, with plays produced in NY, San Diego and Toronto. His full-length play ‘Icarus Sings’ was work shopped in NY last season for a Toronto production. Among the many talents he has been fortunate to work with are Christopher Plummer, Mike Nichols, William H. Macy, William Hurt, Harvey Keitel, Cybill Shepard, Mary Louise Parker, Christopher Walken, Stanley Tucci, Paul Newman, Joanne Woodward, among others.
