Submissions for the 2025 Schreiber Shorts: It Happened to me are now closed
New voices keep theater fresh and vital.
That is why, every year, T. Schreiber Studio and Gloria Maddox Theater Productions celebrate the short form with our Schreiber Shorts Festival, a curated evening of short plays exploring a chosen theme.
Playwrights are encouraged to engage with this year’s theme “It Happened to Me” in any manner they choose. We will be processing play submissions on a rolling basis between now and April 1st.
Each play selected will be fully produced and performed by members of our exceptional acting community at A.R.T./New York's Jeffrey and Paula Gural Theatre.
Selection Process
- We start the selection process with a blind read of each submission. Please do not contact the studio about the status of your submission as it may jeopardize the anonymity of our review process, causing your play to be excluded.
- All playwrights will be informed whether or not their play was selected by May 15th.
- We appreciate your patience as we carefully review each submission.

What to expect if your one-act play is selected:
- A stipend of $75
- A fully staged production includes direction, professional actors from the studio, and set, costume, and lighting design.
- An invitation to attend two rehearsals to collaborate with your director or make any adjustments to your script.
- Two complimentary tickets to the production and an invitation to our opening night party.
