How do you use a script to build a living, breathing world on-stage? Actors, directors, playwrights alike: Your script is your Bible. Study it, and it will light your path. This Script Analysis class uses Checkov plays to explore theme, spine, event metaphor, actions, and behavior.

What Is Script Analysis and Why Is it Important?

Script Analysis is detective work. Under each line there are layers of meaning relating to each character and the overall story arc. Terry Schreiber brings 51 years of directing and teaching to this special Script Analysis class. Influenced by the work of Harold Clurman, Terry guides actors, directors and playwrights through the process of preparing a script or full production book. Terry Schreiber has worded with hundreds of actors including Edward Norton, Peter Sarsgaard, Jon Orsini & Debra Jo Rupp.

“Now, when I rewrite a play, the tools I learned from the ‘script analysis’ class take me from confusion to clarity.”

ACCOLADES
“I was searching for a playwriting class, I audited three different teachers and none were the right fit. By chance, I read about Terry Schreiber’s ’Script Analysis’ class for actors and directors. I had watched a ‘YouTube’ with Tony award playwright, Simon Stephens- in it, he said ‘script analysis’ was a great tool for playwrights when it’s time for rewrites. I signed up for Terry’s six week course- four hours every Thursday (with homework!) The sessions were exactly what I was searching for. Terry’s passion and knowledge of the theater energized me and being in a class with actors and directors gave me a new perspective of the collaborative spirit of theater. Now, when I rewrite a play, the tools I learned from the ‘script analysis’ class take me from confusion to clarity. I now enjoy the rewriting process! I highly recommend this class.”
